Drink Less

Is the Reframe drink less app free? Price, trial and what you get

No. Reframe is free to download, but the program itself needs a paid subscription after a 7-day free trial. On the US App Store, checked November 4, 2026, its plans run from $13.99 to $24.99 a month and from $59.99 to $119.99 a year, and one-to-one coaching costs extra. If you want to cut back for nothing, there are free apps and a free method that do the core job; this guide shows both, and how to use Reframe's free week well if you try it.

Reframe: Drink Less & Thrive is sold by Glucobit Inc. It describes itself as a 160-day education program for people who want to cut back or quit drinking. It's one of the most rated apps in its category: 4.7 stars from about 45,000 ratings on the US App Store when we checked.

What "free" means on the App Store listing

The listing says "Free" with "In-App Purchases". That label only means the download costs nothing. Almost everything you'd download it for, the daily lessons, the tools and the community, sits behind the subscription. When you open the app you answer setup questions, then reach a paywall that offers the 7-day trial. Healthline's review of the app said the same: no free version beyond the trial.

So the honest answer to "is Reframe free?" is: for 7 days, yes; after that, only if you cancel before the trial ends.

Reframe prices, checked November 4, 2026

The US App Store lists these in-app purchases. You won't see all of them at once; the app shows you one or two offers, and which ones can depend on when you sign up and on promotions.

Name on the listingPrice
Reframe Access (Monthly)$13.99
Reframe (Monthly)$19.99
Reframe Silver (Monthly)$24.99
Reframe (Annual)$59.99, $79.99, $99.99 or $119.99
Reframe Access (Yearly)$79.99
Reframe Premium$99.99 (marked "Free Trial")
Reframe Silver (Annual)$119.99

Prices outside the US differ. The listing notes that "Prices listed in the app are USD and may differ outside of the United States." Healthline, updating its review in April 2023, saw $13.99 a month and $79.99 a year, plus "Thrive" coaching at $99.99 a month for messaging and $249.99 a month with live video. Coaching prices may have changed since; check inside the app before you buy.

Why there are so many prices

Ten price points for one app looks strange, but it's common for subscription apps. It usually comes from three things:

What it means for you: the price on your screen is the one that matters. Take a screenshot of it before you start the trial, so you know what will be charged on day 8.

What the 7-day free trial includes

Based on the App Store description, the subscription opens:

Healthline also reported that some courses and workshops use "coins" you earn through daily tasks or pay for, even as a subscriber. Seven days covers about 7 of the 160 program days, so the trial shows you the style of the app, not its results.

How to cancel the Reframe trial before you're charged

The trial is a subscription that starts billing by itself. Apple's terms on the listing say your account "will be charged for renewal 24-hours prior to the end of the current payment period", and you must cancel "at least 24 hours prior to renewal." So cancel by day 6 if you don't want to pay.

On an iPhone

  1. Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap Reframe, then Cancel Free Trial (or Cancel Subscription) and confirm.

You usually keep access until the trial's end date. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription; only the steps above do.

On Android

  1. Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  2. Pick Reframe and tap Cancel subscription.

Tip: set a phone reminder for day 5 the moment you start the trial. It costs nothing and saves the most common complaint in reviews of subscription apps: a yearly charge nobody meant to pay.

Is Reframe worth paying for?

It depends on what you need. Ask yourself these four questions during the trial:

QuestionIf yesIf no
Do you read the daily lesson most days without being pushed? The core program is what you pay for; it's working for youYou're paying for content you skip; a free tracker may be enough
Do you want to understand why alcohol pulls at you?Reframe's strength is education about the brain and habitsA short plan that changes the routine may suit you better
Do you like talking to others in a community? The community and check-ins add valueMost of the extra tiers' value is lost on you
Will you use it for 6 months or more?A yearly plan beats monthly on pricePay monthly, or don't subscribe

One more check: does the app's evidence apply to you? Reframe's description calls its program "evidence-based", meaning built on research about habits and alcohol. That is not the same as a published trial of the app itself. Results figures quoted on Reframe's own site come from the company. The best-studied cut-back app is a different, free one (below), and a 2024 trial of it is the closest thing to proof that an app can help people drink less.

Free alternatives to Reframe

If the price is the problem, these do part or most of what you'd use Reframe for, at no cost. Our guide to the best drink less app compares them in more detail.

If you go the free route, the part to keep from Reframe's approach is the daily habit: one small action each day, and a count of what you drank. Our drink tracker app guide shows how to count in US standard drinks, which matters if you use a UK app.

How to get the most from a 7-day Reframe trial

If you do start the trial, use the week to learn something you keep even if you cancel:

  1. Day 1: Before you open the app, write down how many drinks you had in each of the last 7 days. That's your starting number.
  2. Day 1: Screenshot the price you were shown and set a day-5 reminder.
  3. Days 1 to 7: Log every drink the same evening, in standard drinks. A large glass of wine is often 1.5 to 2.
  4. Days 2 to 4: Notice when the first drink happens: after work, while cooking, after the kids are in bed, at a weekend lunch. That moment is your cue.
  5. Day 5: Decide. Did you open it every day? Did your count drop? If not, cancel.
  6. Day 7: Whatever you decided, keep the cue you found and one swap for it (a walk, an alcohol-free drink, a call), and keep counting.

If you'd rather start with the cue, our free 2-minute drinking pattern quiz names the pattern behind most of your drinks, such as the evening unwinder or the weekend social drinker, without a trial to cancel.

Privacy: what Reframe says it collects

Drinking data is personal, so read the privacy labels before you log. On the US App Store, Reframe's developer says:

Apple notes these labels come from the developer and are not checked by Apple. If you'd rather not share, use a nickname and an email you keep for apps, and turn off ad tracking for the app in your phone's settings.

When an app isn't the right tool

A drink less app is a habit tool. It isn't treatment. See a doctor, or call the free, confidential SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357 (open every day), if:
